Several churches were originally in the East River Baptist Association in Virginia and felt that the formation of a separate WV association would help facilitate the formation of a new WV state convention.

Directors of Missions have been W.D. Sharp, 1974-82; Cliff Davis, 1982-87; Arnold Moon, 1988-96; Don Deel, 1997-2012; Allan Thompson, 2013-present

2002, Endowment Fund established to assist churches in renovation, construction, and repair of facilities

2012, 1st $200,000+ budget year for MSBA

2014, 1st bi-annual all expenses paid leadership development retreats for pastors and wives instituted

2015, 1st multi-ethnic church launched (Meet Us At The Cross International, Bluefield); 1st annual association-wide mission trip (to Alaska); 50th anniversary annual meeting to again be held at Edgemont BC, Bluefield.
