MSBA History

 

Historical Highlights of the Mountain State Baptist Association

 

  • Founded in 1965 by these churches:

    • Bailey Memorial Baptist Church

    • Bluewell Baptist Church

    • Bramwell Baptist Church

    • Brushfork Baptist Church

    • Burke Memorial Baptist Church

    • Calvary Baptist Church, Bluefield

    • Calvary Baptist Church, Meadow Ridge

    • Central Baptist Church (now Ceres Baptist Church)

    • Duhring Street Chapel

    • Edgemont Baptist Church

    • Fellowship Baptist Church

    • Friendship Baptist Church

    • Lilly Grove Baptist Church

    • Matoaka Baptist Church

    • Mt. Hermon Baptist Church

    • Silver Springs Baptist Church

 

Several churches were originally in the East River Baptist Association in Virginia and felt that the formation of a separate WV association would help facilitate the formation of a new WV state convention.

 

  • Nov. 1965, first annual meeting held at Edgemont BC in Bluefield, WV

 

  • Directors of Missions have been W.D. Sharp, 1974-82; Cliff Davis, 1982-87; Arnold Moon, 1988-96; Don Deel, 1997-2012; Allan Thompson, 2013-present

 

  • 2002, Endowment Fund established to assist churches in renovation, construction, and repair of facilities

 

  • 2012, 1st $200,000+ budget year for MSBA

 

  • 2014, 1st bi-annual all expenses paid leadership development retreats for pastors and wives instituted

 

  • 2015, 1st multi-ethnic church launched (Meet Us At The Cross International, Bluefield); 1st annual association-wide mission trip (to Alaska); 50th anniversary annual meeting to again be held at Edgemont BC, Bluefield.
